A PERFECT DAY IN MARLBOROUGH – By Hamish Thomas
15 Dec 2021
The Auckland borders are open and we are so wrapped to have our mates from the City of Sales travelling around and enjoying our country again.
This has given us the opportunity to stop and think about what we really enjoy about Marlborough - and personally - some of the things I like to do.
A perfect day in Marlborough needn’t be just a trip to the Marlborough Sounds (though that’s pretty amazing too), there are heaps of things to do in Blenheim for those Aucklanders and the surrounding area that will take you breathe away. So many of our wonderful customers come to our store asking what to do in the region – and many are surprised that there are so many things to do that just aren’t on the radar at all.
I am a foodie at heart - and I personally think that there is no better place in New Zealand to experience great cuisine and wine (of course). Here's what I recommend for a perfect day in Marlborough:
1. Lunch at Wairau River, Saint Clair or Wither Hills
3. Visit Karaka Kitchen, buy some beautiful local cheese, bread, pate & charcuterie. Then head to Marfell’s beach, and walk to Cape Campbell along the beach.
4. Hire a mountain bike and ride from town along the river to the Wither Hills farm park. Or head to the wineries. Then stop off at the brand new Boomtown Beer Garden.
5. Bike out to Grove Town and visit the Grove Town Pub, sit in the beer garden and enjoy fantastic Japanese food, craft beer and a wonderful wine list. There’s a big outdoor fire in the winter too.
7. Coffee fix at Herb & Olive, Thomas & Sons, CPR or Hakuna Matata (all located in the Blenheim CBD within a minute's walking distance of each other).
8. Then after a night out on Saturday, go to the Farmers Market on Sunday - that's just a fantastic place and make sure you grab some breakfast from Feast Merchants or Fran at Boom Chef - just fantastic local food.
9. And make sure you come by our shop - Thomas's Marlborough - where you will find an extraordinary amount of treasure - including NZ made fashion, international designers, and gorgeous homewares.
I hope you enjoy your tour around our beautiful region, and don't forget to ask your locals on the best way to enjoy your stay over in Marlborough.
